What is a lean bulk?
A lean bulk is a controlled calorie surplus designed to maximize muscle gain while limiting fat gain. A typical bulking calculator sets a surplus of +250 kcal/day (lean) to +500 kcal/day (standard), with protein at 1.6-2.2 g/kg bodyweight. Natural lifters can gain roughly 2-4 lbs of muscle per month - eating beyond a moderate surplus just adds fat.
